Antonio López García nació en Tomelloso, provincia de Ciudad Real, pueblo de la mancha. España. Hacia el sur de Madrid.
Comienza sus andaduras a los 12 años de edad, en relación a la andadura de una persona joven buscando conocimientos de adultos es muy pronto… cree que el arte es como un termómetro o como los glóbulos blancos, que avisa de lo que está pasando y si el ser humano “va hacia la oscuridad”, dice, el arte le acompaña.

Las cabezas de Atocha: EL día y la Noche.

Las esculturas ‘Día y Noche’, del pintor y premio Velázquez Antonio López, han sido instaladas en la Estación de Atocha. 2 Esculturas de gran tamaño en las que el artista retrata a una de sus nietas (Carmen despierta, Carmen dormida) cuando tenía pocos meses de nacida. Desde la fecha de su colocación, en julio de 2008, las dos esculturas de tres metros de altura y más de 2.000 kilos de peso habían ocupado la sala mixta de la planta baja de la estación, junto a los andenes, posteriormente el articulado brazo de una grúa las depositó en su lugar definitivo: la plaza próxima al nuevo vestíbulo de llegadas.

Un cuadro que sin duda ha causado polémica, su presentación se ha realizado en 2014, un cuadro que ha sufrido modificaciones por parte del pintor durante 20 años antes de ser expuesto. Sea como fuera e independientemente de que la obra guste más o menos, hay que reconocer que el cuadro ha logrado que los reyes eméritos vuelvan a aparecer juntos en un acto oficial y que por unas horas escenifiquen la imagen de aquel matrimonio unido.

Atocha heads: Day and Night
